Forensics

In Forensics, students compete with other county schools in competitions that include Reading a Passage, Declamation, Humor, Extemporaneous Speaking and others. Forensics is open to students in Grades 5 through 8.

Congratulations to our 2007-2008 Forensics team!  They placed third in the Union County Catholic Schools Forensics League for the second year in a row!

2008 - 2009

The first competition in the Union County Catholic Forensics League for the 2008-2009 school year was held on November 5th at Hillside Catholic Academy.  Students chose a reading to present to the judges.

The competitors were: Monica Youn, Krystyna Krupinski, Chantley Thomas, Sophia Morin, Ashley Forbes, and David Tibbs.

Other team members were: Ayanna Gilmore, Lila Majano, Olivia Florence, Taquicha Ottley, and Cassedy Veillard.

We congratulate Monica Youn who received a second place ribbon and David Tibbs who received a third place ribbon in the competition.

The second competition was held on February 11th at St. James the Apostle in Springfield.  Students competed in the Declamation competition.

Competitors were: Monica Youn, Chantley Thomas, Lila Majano, Olivia Florence, Cassedy Veillard, and David Tibbs.  Alternate was Qadirah Muhammad.

Congratulations to Monica Youn for her third place finish!

The third and final competition of the 08-09 school year was held April 29 at St. Bart's in Scotch Plains.  Team members paired for the Duo Drama or Humor Competition.  The teams that competed were:

Chantley Thomas and David Tibbs; Monica Youn and Cheyanne Fusilli; Krystyna Krupinski and Lila Majano; Cassedy Veillard and Qadirah Muhammed; and Ashley Forbes and Sophia Morin.

Unfortunately, none of the teams made it into the finals, but they impressed us anyway!  We are so proud of our strong forensics team coached and prepared by Mrs. Lorraine Sarra.  We look forward to even more students competing next year!

Thank you to all our parents and teachers who help to support our Forensics team, especially moderator Mrs. Lorraine Sarra and judge Mrs. Sara Pender.

The 2008 forensics team performed well at the first meet of the school year.  Monica Youn received a second place ribbon and David Tibbs received a third place ribbon in the Reading category held at Hillside Catholic Academy on November 5.

Also, Monica received perfect scores in the preliminary round.  Krystyna Krupinski and Chantley Thomas received a perfect 25 in one of their preliminary rounds.

Shown are Taquicha Ottley, Ashley Forbes, Sophia Morin, David Tibbs, Krystyna Krupinski, Olivia Florence, Chantley Thomas, Cassedy Veillard, and Lila Majano.  Absent are Monica Youn and Ayanna Gilmore.

Monica Youn won second place in the first Forensics Competition of the 08-09 school year.  She received perfect scores in the preliminary round!

David Tibbs won third place in the same competition.  This is David's first year of competition.
